To ensure that your natural lashes remain healthy and to extend the life of your lash extensions, proper eyelash extension care is crucial. Whether you are new to eyelash extensions or considering getting them, it’s important to understand the necessary upkeep they require.

However, if you have habits such as rubbing your eyes, pulling on your lashes, or being a face sleeper, you may want to explore alternative options.

Eyelash Extension Care Tips:

Eyelash Extension Care – Top Tip #1

Clean your Eyelash Extensions. Taking care of your precious eyelash extensions is an absolute must! Remember to wash them every single night.

It’s completely normal to adore your new lashes so much that you’re worried they might come off if they get wet. But fear not! Once you have them, they become a part of your world, making your daily routine a breeze.

You can shower, swim, sweat, and yes, even shed a few tears… they’re not going anywhere!

However, the biggest mistake you can make is neglecting to clean your lashes. Daily cleaning is super important because it helps remove any bacteria, makeup residue, and excess oils that may accumulate at the base of your eyelids. This applies whether you have enhancements or not.

Clients who diligently cleanse their lashes every day do not have a buildup of makeup, oils, bacteria or premature shedding. So remember, keep those lashes squeaky clean.

Care Tip #2 – Oil

Taking good care of your lashes is essential to maintain their health and beauty. If you’re looking for some tips, here’s one that you should keep in mind: Oil is your enemy.

Oil will break down the adhesive, causing your lashes to fall out prematurely. So, it’s important to steer clear of products that contain oil, such as cleansing oils and eye makeup removers with oil.

You might think if you are avoiding products with oil you don’t need to clean your lashes.  Well, it turns out that our lashes, just like our hair, produce natural oils called sebum.  If left unchecked, excess sebum can accumulate on your lashes, that’s why it’s important to clean your lashes every day. By doing so, you can remove any excess oil and keep your lashes looking their best.

So, there you have it – a simple yet effective tip for maintaining your lashes. With a little bit of care and attention, you can keep your lashes healthy and beautiful.

Care Tip #3 – Don’t Touch

Avoid touching your lashes. Although it may be tempting to pet your lashes, it’s important to resist the urge. When you touch your lashes often, you unknowingly transfer oil from your skin to your lashes. This oil can weaken the bond and cause the extensions to detach from your natural lashes, resulting in premature shedding. Instead of touching them, gently brush your lashes to keep them looking their best.

Care Tip #4

When it comes to mascaras and eyeliners, it’s best to follow a simple rule – if the product is difficult to remove at the end of the day, don’t use it.

Better yet, choose only oil-free formulas for eyeliners as they are placed right at the lash line.

Additionally, it’s better to avoid using water-proof, water-resistant, color-stay or gel eyeliners since they tend to be harder to remove.

It’s not recommended to wear mascara as it can damage your lashes.

Care Tip #5 – Sleep

Sleeping face down on your pillow.   I sleep on my side but I have had a few clients who sleep with their faces mushed right into the pillow.  I always hate having to tell these clients that sleeping face down will decrease the lifespan of their eyelash extensions.  Sleeping on your back is the best.

Care Tip #6 –Maintenance.

The average client will want her eyelash extensions filled around the 3 week mark.  This will maintain full, lush eyelash extensions.  There are many variables that can influence how fast your natural lashes shed.  Lash shed cycles can be affected by stress, hormones, diet, and medication ….to mention just a few.    If there is a change in your shed pattern, don’t hesitate to discuss it with me.
