Why I Don’t Fill Lashes done by other Techncians

Why I Don’t Fill Lashes done by other Techncians

Why I Don’t Fill Lashes Done by Technicians

When clients reach out to me for lash services, they sometimes ask if I can fill lashes that another lash technician has done. Most lash artists suggest that it would be best to remove the existing lashes and apply a new set instead.

It’s important to keep in mind that every Lash Technician has their own unique way of doing things. They use different methods, extensions, and adhesives, and each has varying levels of experience and skill. As a result, most lash artists will not fill lashes that have been done by other Technicians, because of these differences.

Why I don’t fill lashes done by other technicians:

The APPLICATION:

Many technicians struggle with poor isolation and application, which leads to poor Lash Retention. As a result, clients may not want to return to the original technician for future appointments.

Fixing improperly applied lashes is a time-consuming and difficult task. If you are not satisfied with another technician’s work, it’s not as simple as going to another technician to have them fill the existing lashes. Correcting what has already been done, if it can be corrected, is time-consuming and difficult.

The STYLING:

When it comes to styling, it’s important to understand that no two artists are the same and that their styles can vary tremendously.

If I try to follow another artist’s style, it limits my creativity and can make it impossible to achieve the best look for you.

Why I  don’t fill lashes done by other Technicians

Firstly, it is impossible to fill eyelash extensions and at the same time correct styling and application errors.

Secondly, sometimes too much or not enough adhesive has been used, which can result in retention issues that cannot be corrected.

There may be application errors and unsafe extensions, such as incorrect isolation of the natural lash, where some extensions have been applied to multiple natural lashes instead of being placed on one individual natural lash.

The synthetic lashes used may be the wrong length, diameter, or weight, resulting in an unsafe set and an undesirable look.

Finally, the natural lashes may have been severely damaged due to improper technique and styling, leaving them thin, fragile, patchy, and traumatized.

Is it Safe to Remove Lash Extensions Yourself?

Is it Safe to Remove Lash Extensions Yourself?

Need to Remove Lash Extensions?

Because you want to take a break or want to start fresh with another Lash Artist, you may be tempted to try and remove your Lash Extensions at home.

Lash Artists do offer Lash Removal Services and these appointments are usually about 30 minutes.  It is not only a quick visit, it is also painless. Please don’t try to remove them yourself.

Do You Need to take a Break?

It is not uncommon to worry about the health of your natural lashes and wonder if you need to take a break.

As long as the lashes have been applied by a certified Lash Professional using the correct length, weight and thickness for your natural lashes, they can be worn indefinitely. There really is no need to take a break and as a matter of fact, some of my clients, have worn extensions for over 10 years with no issue what so ever.

Is It Safe To Remove Eyelash Extensions At Home?

No, it is not safe to remove your Lash Extensions at home.  You should always have them removed by a Professional.

  • Professionally trained and certified  lash artists  have the correct tools and training to remove extensions properly and safely.
  • Lash Professionals have  the knowledge of which professional remover to use and how long to leave the remover on for.
  • Removers should only be used by Lash Professionals that have experience and training.

Removing Lash Extensions Safely

Because Lash Extensions are bonded onto each individual natural lash, if you try to pull the extensions off, you are going to pull out your natural lashes as well.

Returning to the salon that did your lashes is the safest solution.  But,  if that makes you uncomfortable simply make an appointment with another Lash Professional.  A Lash Professional will always ensure that your sythetic lashes are removed safely and without damage to your natural lashes.

Time Required to Remove Extensions

In most cases, removing Lash Extensions is a quick service that is about 30-45 minutes.

What is the best lash length for me?

What is the best lash length for me?

How do you decide what is the best lash length for you?

The Best Lash Length for you depends on several things, such as:

  • Your Natural Lash Length and Condition
  • Your Eye Shape
  • Your Desired Look and Style.

As your Lash Artist, I will help you decide, what is the best length for you and ensure that you have a Beautiful and Safe Set of Eyelash Extensions.

Different Lengths for Different Lashes

When I design a set of lash extensions for you, I use different lengths across your lash line. I never use the same length across your entire lash line.

If you take a close look at your natural lashes, you will see that your lashes are not all the same length.  You have smaller lashes in the corner of your eye and larger lengths in the midle of your eye.

Just like mother nature designed your lashes, I place smaller lengths in the inner and outer sections of your eye and place the longer lengths in the middle of your eye.

Of course, the Lash Style you are wanting can change that Lash placement.

What is the Best Lash Length for me?

What Influences the Lash Lengths or Style, I can Have.

The first thing I am going to look at is your Natural Lash and decide whether or not your natural lashes can support the weight and length of the lash extension you are wanting.

The health and condition of your natural lashes influences the Extension length I can use..

    • A thin and weak natural lash cannot handle a longer, thicker extension.  Using a to long or heavy synthetic lash,  can cause damage to your natural lash.
    • Longer and Thicker extensions can be used if you have strong and healthy natural lashes.
    • Some gals love super long and dramatic lashes, which is so much fun, but it’s important that I consider whether or not your natural lashes can handle that length.
    • Natural lashes are a great indicator of what lengths flatter us most.
    • If you have naturally long eyelashes, you  may find a length of 12 or 13mm to be the perfect length.  Where someone with shorter natural  lashes may find that a 10 or 11mm is better for them.

What are the  Most Popular Lash Styles?

Natural – shorter length extensions that follow your natural lash length

Cat Eye – short lashes in the inner corner and gradually icreasing length towards outer corner of the eye.  Keep in mind, your outer lashes have to be able to support the weight and length of a longer extension.

Doll Eye – Lash extensions are the longest in the center of the eye and shorter at the inner and outer corner of the eye.

Understanding Lash Extension Lengths

Lash extensions are measured in millimeters, just like natural lashes.

Eyelash Extension lengths can range from 5 mm to over 30 mm.

The lengths I carry for both classic and volume are  8  – 15mm and this length range is pretty standard and available in most lash salons.

What is the most popular lash length?

The most popular lash extension length is 11 mm.

Most natural lashes can handle the additional weight of an 11 mm extension without any issue and this length provides a beautiful full look.

Fun Fact:  The average woman’s longest natural lash will usually fall between the 8 – 9mm  range.   Now, this is a pretty accurate for the majority, but I do see on occassion, natural lashes that are longer or shorter than 8.5 mm.  I measure your natural lashes at your appointment and I discuss your natural lash length with you.

Best Lash Length for you - Eyelash Extensions Length Examples | cg lash studio, regina sk

What length looks the most natural?

The best lengths for a natural look are extensions that are 9 mm to 11 mm.

Are shorter Extensions better?

Shorter lash extensions look fuller and they give you a more natural look, but that doesn’t mean they are better.

The best length for you is one that will suit your natural lash condition, length and your personal style.

At your first appointment, I talk to you extensively about what you are looking for and what your natural lashes can handle.

What is the Best Lash Length for me?

Depends, Are you wanting Length or Fullness?

The most common reason people decide to get lash extensions is to lengthen and add volume to their lashes.

Length can also influence how thick your extensions will look.

Long ago, I read this example of,  Flowers in a Vase.  It’s a such a great way of explaining how a longer lash can look more sparse that a shorter lash.

When you have flowers in a vase and the flower stems are long, they stick out of the mouth of the vase.  The long stems create a lot of space in between each flower and the arrangement can look  sparse. But, when you cut the stems shorter, the gaps created by the stems disappear.  The flowers sit closer together,  making the same amount of flowers look fuller.

Lashes work the same way.

The shorter the extensions, the fuller they look.

If you are looking for fullness, we should use a shorter length.

The difference between Classic and Volume

The difference between Classic and Volume

Today let’s talk about, the difference between Classic and Volume  Eyelash Extensions.

I offer 3 different lash styles.

The most common lash sets in order of popularity are:

  1.  5d Volume
  2.  8d Mega Volume
  3. Classic

What is the difference between Classic and Volume Lash Extensions:

Classic Lash Extensions:

Classic is really a technique.  This technique is where I apply one single synthetic lash extension on to each individual natural lash.

This is my First Love and also the technique I was first trained in, so many years ago.

A Classic Lash Set will create a natural, subtle look by adding length and a bit of thickness to your lashes.

These are perfect for anyone who wants a Natural Look and has a thicker Natural Lash.  Also for someone who does not struggle with a sparse lash line and has no visible gaps.

The difference between Classic, Volume and Hybrid Lashes | Classic Lashes | cg lash studio, regina sk

Volume Lash Extensions:

Volume is where I apply multiple light weight synthetic lash extensions to one individual natural lash.

Instead of applying one extension per lash, I group several fine synthetic lashes together to create a fan.  These volume fans are then placed onto each individual natural lash.

Currently I offer 4d, 5d and 8d.  The d stands for the number of synthetic lashes in a volume fan.  5d is the most popular with 8d quickly rising in popularity.

Volume Lashes create a fuller, more dramatic, and glamorous look than a Classic Lash would provide.  With that said, they are still a very natural full look.

Volume lash extensions are popular for anyone:

  • with sparse or thin lashes
  • who has gaps in their natural lash line
  • that desire a thicker, fuller, darker look

Hybrid Lash Extensions:

Hybrid lash extensions are a combination of classic and volume lash techniques.

I am also trained in Hybrid Lashes, but it is not a technique or a look that I like or offer.

This method incorporates a single lash extension combined with volume lash fans.

Difference between Classic and Volume Lashes

Ultimately, the choice between classic, volume, or hybrid lash extensions depends on your personal preferences, desired look, and the natural condition of your lashes.

1. Technique:

Classic Lashes are a one to one application method.

Volume Lashes are a multiple to one application method, with handmade volume fans.

Hybrid lashes combine both techniques.

2. Appearance:

Classic lashes create both a natural and subtle look.

Volume lashes provide a fuller, darker, more dramatic, fluffy appearance.

3. Suitability:

Classic lashes are suitable for those with a naturally thick natural lash and anyone seeking a natural enhancement.

Volume lashes are great for individuals with  sparse or thin lashes and those who desire a thick and darker look.

Classic Lashes Volume Lashes

Lash Shampoo for Lash Extensions

Lash Shampoo for Lash Extensions

Lash Shampoo

If you don’t have Lash Extensions, this Lash Shampoo recipe is amazing for Natural Lashes as well.

Lash Shampoo Recipe for Lash Extensions or Natural Lashes - cg lash studio, regina sk

Lash Shampoo Recipe:

It is not necessary to purchase an expensive Lash Shampoo or Cleanser from your Lash Professional.

You can make this Lash Shampoo recipe at home for pennies and this is all you need!

Why Washing your eyelash extensions is important.

Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions or Great Retention,

happens when you keep your eyelash extensions clean, everyday!

What you will need for your Lash Shampoo:

  • 2/3 Water
  • 1/3 Baby shampoo – (Johnson & Johnson – tearless)
  • Small bottle
    • An emty prescription bottle works great.

Notes:

You “must” bath or wash your Lashes EVERY night.  Now, with that said, it doesn’t have to be right before you go to bed.  When you are home for the night, give your lashes a quick bath.

    • Volume Lashes are very unforgiving if they are not washed every night.  That lash line and base of extensions need to be free of oil and makeup

If you are spending a ton of time washing your Eyelash Extensions, you are doing to much.  All that is required is a quick once over.  I like to go across the lash line and a few swipes down the lashes.

    • After your quick Lash Bath, be sure to rinse and pat dry.
    • You wash your lashes every night, including the day you have them done.

Fluffy Brush – to clean Lash Extensions

I need to emphasize how important a fluffy brush is.

A disposable mascara brush or your finger… WILL NOT clean your Lash Extensions properly.

        • You need a “FLUFFY” brush
        • Each night – dip your fluffy brush into your Lash Shampoo and run the brush across lash line.
        • Rinse and pat dry

      Makeup & Eyeshadow

If you have makeup or eyeshadow on your eyes, this tip will help.

Go ahead and wear it.  But, before you clean your eyelash extensions, remove the makeup or eyeshadow first.

If you don’t clean your eyelid first, the makeup and shadow will run into your lash line.  Glittery or Mineral eyeshadow is a huge problem if it settles into your lash line because it is impossible to get it off once that happens.

Best way to remove.  Take a q-tip and gently remove all makeup from your eyelid before bathing your Eyelash Extensions.

Preparing for your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Preparing for your Eyelash Extension Appointment

Here are some tips on Preparing for your Eyelash Extension Appointment.

      Appointment Day:

      Clean Eyelashes

It is important to arrive with clean lashes and no eye makeup.

Oils and makeup will  prevent the adhesive from properly bonding and can result in poor retention.

Facial and brow makeup is fine.

      Mascara

      Remove before your appointment.

If you wear waterproof mascara, stop using it for  3 days before your appointment.

The compounds in water proof mascara  will remain on your natural lashes, even after properly cleansing.

The residue from water proof mascara can  prevent my adhesive from properly bonding.

preparing for your eyelash extension appointment - Waterproof Mascara

      MAKEUP

Don’t wear eye makeup to your eyelash appointment.

Removing eye makeup can be time-consuming and take away from your lash extension application time.

preparing for your eyelash extension appointment - eyemakeup

      Products around Your eyes

      • Avoid oil based products on and around the eyes.
      • On the day of your appointment, apply your  eye cream sparingly, if at all.
      • NO oil based makeup remover
      • On the day of your appointment, do not use any oil based makeup removers.

      Contacts

Remove your contacts, if you wear them.

For your first appointment I would recommend being contact free.  This is a safety precaution and will ensure you leave with happy, healthy eyes and lashes.

Many of my clients keep their contacts in at their appointment and this is something you can make a decision about after your first appointment.

preparing for your eyelash extension appointment - contacts

      Cell Phone

Let your family and friends know that you will be unable to answer their calls for a few hours.   This is time for you to relax and enjoy some pampering.

preparing for your eyelash extension appointment - cell phone

      Before Appointment Day

Please  inform me of any known eye conditions before your appointment. If you do have any type of condition, your appointment may have to be rescheduled.

      Perm, Tint Lashes

Do not perm or tint your natural  lashes. For at least 6 weeks before your appointment.

      Facials or Tanning

If you are receiving any sort of facial treatment that includes cleansing or steam, this must be scheduled PRIOR to your lash appointment.

If you are scheduling any type of tanning this should be scheduled PRIOR to your lash apppointment.

48 hours after lash application is the recommended time post-lashing.

       Fun Facts

        • Your first appointment will generally last 2-3 hours.
        • For each appointment that you are with me, your eyes will be closed the entire time. Enjoy this time to relax and have a nap.
        • I customize your Eyelash Extensions to accentuate and compliment your eye.  There are many different lengths, curls and diameters of eyelash extensions as well as different looks that can be created.
        • Be sure to check out my Before and After Lash Extension Pictures.
        • I do not use human hair or real mink eyelash extensions.  I use synthetic mink and synthetic silk eyelash extensions.  I am a cruelty free salon.  This post may interest you:  Genuine Fur Eyelash Extensions.

      Yes! You Can:

        • Get them wet. You DO NOT have to wait 24-48  hours before you get them wet.  Be sure to check out this post:  Wash Your Lash Extensions.
        • Wear makeup. The best part of lash extensions is you will cut your beauty routine time down.  You will no longer need mascara or an eyelash curler.  You can wear eye makeup as long as it is oil free and you you are using something oil-free to take it off.

Lash Extensions WILL NOT damage your Natural Lashes.

I should expand on that.  Eyelash Extensions will not damage your natural eyelashes, IF  they are applied properly by a certified professional.

If lashes are applied correctly, they will never break off or pull out your natural lashes.

One thing you should NEVER do is to pull your extensions off.  If you do this, you will be pulling your natural eyelashes at the same time.

      Recommendation – Posts to Read:

Preparing for your Eyelash Extension Appointment – Before you book.

      Do your research.

Not all lash technicians understand proper and safe application.  It is a challenge to choose the “right” one.

Why you should think before you get “It seems like you can get Eyelash Extensions at every Salon now.  Groupon is constantly promoting “Cheap Eyelash Extensions“.

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

Well let me rephrase that. When Lash Extensions are applied properly by a Certified Lash Professional, they don’t just Fall Off.

Lash Extensions are attached to one natural eyelash.  Your natural eyelash continues to grow, move and shed, even when it has a Lash Extension attached to it.

      Eyelash Extensions Don't Fall Off

Lash extensions fall with the natural lash

This above picture is a client’s lashes at her 3 week fill.

Notice the Natural Lash and the Volume Fan on that lash.

3 weeks ago, that volume fan was placed 1mm from the skin.  In 3 weeks the natural lash grew more than 9mm and still the extension stayed attached to the natural lash.  That is what is supposed to happen.  An extension should not fall off  before the natural lash it is attached to.

If the natural lash had shed before her 3 week fill,  both the lash and extension would have fallen together.

You should see a Natural Lash Attached

When you see a fallen extension, you should see a natural lash attached to it.

If you see a lot of fallen Lash Extensions without a natural lash attached, that’s a problem and it means there is something in  your daily routine breaking down the adhesive.  Be sure to read:  Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

      Lash Fill

I giggle when clients say…this fill won’t take long… I’ve barely lost any lashes.  You might not have noticed any lashes shed, but I can guarantee you that your natural lashes have grown.

During your Lash fill,  I remove any outgrown eyelash extensions and replace them with new Lash Extensions.   This is important because outgrown lashes can become top heavy due to the growth of the natural lash.  Outgrown lashes can twist and turn  and put strain on the natural lash.

I also lash all the new lashes that have grown since your last appointment.

Hope you enjoyed this post.  Many clients coming from other Technicians “think” that Lash Extensions should “just fall off”.
