Lash Shampoo for Lash Extensions

Lash Shampoo

If you don’t have Lash Extensions, this Lash Shampoo recipe is amazing for Natural Lashes as well.

Lash Shampoo Recipe for Lash Extensions or Natural Lashes - cg lash studio, regina sk

Lash Shampoo Recipe:

It is not necessary to purchase an expensive Lash Shampoo or Cleanser from your Lash Professional.

You can make this Lash Shampoo recipe at home for pennies and this is all you need!

Why Washing your eyelash extensions is important.

Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions or Great Retention,

happens when you keep your eyelash extensions clean, everyday!

What you will need for your Lash Shampoo:

  • 2/3 Water
  • 1/3 Baby shampoo – (Johnson & Johnson – tearless)
  • Small bottle
    • An emty prescription bottle works great.

Notes:

You “must” bath or wash your Lashes EVERY night.  Now, with that said, it doesn’t have to be right before you go to bed.  When you are home for the night, give your lashes a quick bath.

    • Volume Lashes are very unforgiving if they are not washed every night.  That lash line and base of extensions need to be free of oil and makeup

If you are spending a ton of time washing your Eyelash Extensions, you are doing to much.  All that is required is a quick once over.  I like to go across the lash line and a few swipes down the lashes.

    • After your quick Lash Bath, be sure to rinse and pat dry.
    • You wash your lashes every night, including the day you have them done.

Fluffy Brush – to clean Lash Extensions

I need to emphasize how important a fluffy brush is.

A disposable mascara brush or your finger… WILL NOT clean your Lash Extensions properly.

        • You need a “FLUFFY” brush
        • Each night – dip your fluffy brush into your Lash Shampoo and run the brush across lash line.
        • Rinse and pat dry

      Makeup & Eyeshadow

If you have makeup or eyeshadow on your eyes, this tip will help.

Go ahead and wear it.  But, before you clean your eyelash extensions, remove the makeup or eyeshadow first.

If you don’t clean your eyelid first, the makeup and shadow will run into your lash line.  Glittery or Mineral eyeshadow is a huge problem if it settles into your lash line because it is impossible to get it off once that happens.

Best way to remove.  Take a q-tip and gently remove all makeup from your eyelid before bathing your Eyelash Extensions.

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

      Lash Extensions Don’t Fall Off

Well let me rephrase that. When Lash Extensions are applied properly by a Certified Lash Professional, they don’t just Fall Off.

Lash Extensions are attached to one natural eyelash.  Your natural eyelash continues to grow, move and shed, even when it has a Lash Extension attached to it.

      Eyelash Extensions Don't Fall Off

Lash extensions fall with the natural lash

This above picture is a client’s lashes at her 3 week fill.

Notice the Natural Lash and the Volume Fan on that lash.

3 weeks ago, that volume fan was placed 1mm from the skin.  In 3 weeks the natural lash grew more than 9mm and still the extension stayed attached to the natural lash.  That is what is supposed to happen.  An extension should not fall off  before the natural lash it is attached to.

If the natural lash had shed before her 3 week fill,  both the lash and extension would have fallen together.

You should see a Natural Lash Attached

When you see a fallen extension, you should see a natural lash attached to it.

If you see a lot of fallen Lash Extensions without a natural lash attached, that’s a problem and it means there is something in  your daily routine breaking down the adhesive.  Be sure to read:  Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

      Lash Fill

I giggle when clients say…this fill won’t take long… I’ve barely lost any lashes.  You might not have noticed any lashes shed, but I can guarantee you that your natural lashes have grown.

During your Lash fill,  I remove any outgrown eyelash extensions and replace them with new Lash Extensions.   This is important because outgrown lashes can become top heavy due to the growth of the natural lash.  Outgrown lashes can twist and turn  and put strain on the natural lash.

I also lash all the new lashes that have grown since your last appointment.

Hope you enjoyed this post.  Many clients coming from other Technicians “think” that Lash Extensions should “just fall off”.

Why are my Natural Lashes Thin or Sparse?

Why are my Natural Lashes Thin or Sparse?

Why are your Natural Lashes thin or sparse?

Who doesn’t love thick, dark, long natural lashes?  Since the beginning of time, women have loved  Eyelashes because they enhance our eyes and make us feel beautiful.

Natural Lashes can appear thin or sparse for several reasons:

        • Aging
        • Hormone fluctuations
          • During or after pregnancy
          • Menopause or Perimenopause
        • Genetics
        • Eyelash Extensions that have not been applied properly
        • Trauma to the eyelid, lashes
        • Allergies to makeup
        • Can be a sign of a health issue
        • Madarosis and Alopecia
      Natural Lashes thin and sparse.

Natural Lashes are affected by Makeup, Mascara and Daily Habits

        • If you use low-quality makeup products this can cause thinning and sparse Lashes.
        • If you are not removing your makeup and mascara before bed.
          • Be careful when removing eye makeup to prevent lash breakage.
          • Use a soft cotton pad and a gentle eye makeup remover,
          • Never pull or tug at your lashes.
        • Do you apply Artificial Strip Lashes on top of your natural lashes instead of the lash line?  When you remove the strip lashes you can pull out your own lashes.
        • Are you stressed or sleep deprived?
        • Do you Love Rubbing your eyes?
          • Be gentle and try to avoid rubbing your eyes vigorously.
        • Because Mascara contains so many chemicals it can dry out the hair follicles, making your lashes brittle and prone to breakage. Avoid Water Proof Mascara, it’s – hard to remove and dehydrating.

      Medical Conditions

You should always contact your doctor, if you have concerns about your lash health.  If you are experiencing sparse lashes due to medical reasons or noticing a sudden amount of natural lash shedding, there might be underlying health issues.

        • Autoimmune diseases  can cause hair loss and can include Eyelashes.
        • Do you have Thyroid problems?
          • Hyperthyroidism (overactive) .  Natural lashes may become weak and brittle.
          • Hypothyroidism (underactive). Natural ashes may become sparse due to slowed metabolism.
        • Blepharitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the base of the eyelash.
          • Itchiness and redness around the eyes.
          • Can cause excessive shedding of Natural eyelashes if not treated.
        • Chemotherapy can cause extreme hair loss which can include  eyebrows and eyelashes.

      Aging Lashes

Eyelashes change as we age.  As we age, our hair follicles produce fewer hairs and that includes those on our eyes.

Many women notice a change in their natural lashes during menopause or perimenopause. Our natural lashes  become thinner, lighter and  grow more slowly.

You might experience changes which include:

      • Length, thickness, and pigmentation.  This can happen on upper and lower lashes.
      • Shorter, thinner, and sparser.  Dang it!!!
      • Daily habits or lack of can also contribute.  Be sure to remove makeup at night  and try to be gentle with your natural lashes.
      • I always advise against water proof mascara… it’s not possible to remove waterproof mascara gently and it is very dehydrating.

      Pregnancy

This is a temporary symptom and should resolve once your pregnancey is over.  Dang hormones!

Sparse lashes during pregnancy can so be caused by nutritional deficiencies.

      After Extensions

If Eyelash Extensions are not applied properly, they can damage the hair follicle,

If you try to remove extensions by tugging and pulling on them, this can also damage your natural lashes.  Always have them removed by a professional.

Only go to a Certified Lash Artist.

      Popular Solutions:

If your Natural Lashes are sparse, thin or light and it is not health issue, it is probablyy caused by aging, hormone fluctuations or rough treatment of your natural lashes.

      A few options to consider:

      • Eyelash Extensions
      • Growth Serums
        • Latisse is an amazing serum, available by  prescription only and you apply it before bed.
        • Latisse is safe and is effective in stimulating  the growth cycle of your own eyelashes.
        • Safe to use with Eyelash Extensions.

      My Top Eyelash Extension Tips

      My Top Eyelash Extension Tips

My Top Eyelash Extension Tips.  We are only a week away from Christmas and as I drink my coffee and enjoy the morning, I thought I would put together my Top Eyelash Extension Tips.

Lash extensions help to boost your confidence, and they also make your morning routine a breeze. Whether you have worn eyelash extensions for years or you are a lash newbie, it never hurts to learn more! Here are my top 10 Eyelash Extension Tips.

Tip 1. One Size Fits All

There’s no such a thing as one look fits all.  You are unique, your eye shape is unique.  You want lashes that compliment your eye and have been designed for you.

We have all seen “those” pictures or know of someone who has Lash Extensions and it looks like 1 length was applied to the entire eye.  I personally hate that look!

Lash Extensions come in different weights and lengths.  Depending on your Lash Artist’s certification and experience, the look can be very different. In your search for a Lash Artist you will find beginners as well as advanced Artists and the look you get will depend on her capabilities.

Everyone has to start somewhere.  Please understand that I am not knocking New Lash Technicians.  We have so much amazing talent in our City.  With that said you will get a different look from a Brand New Lash Technician versus an Advanced Lash Artist.

      • Advanced Artists will give you a full set of safe eyelash extensions. Your lashes will look darker, fuller and more uniform with a beautiful pattern designed to compliment your eye.
      • As an Advanced Certified Lash Artist, my sets are much different than those you see on Social Media.
      • My designs are very complicated.  At your appointment I am working hundreds of tiny lash extensions to create the look I want for you.

      Tip 2. Clean lashes

I don’t have any clients that come with dirty lashes, but I know a lot of ladies read my blog, so I did want to touch on this.

If you are going to another Technician, remember that dirty lashes means that your technician is spending more time cleaning your lashes before she can start your fill. Your lashes will look more incredible if your Technician or Artist can spend more time lashing rather than cleaning.

Eyelash Extension Tips - Water Activities

Tip 3. Eyelash extensions are safe for most water activities.

Do NOT avoid the water!  Many clients avoid water like the plague because they are afraid of getting their lashes wet.  Get them wet, enjoy swimming and other water activities!

Can I get my lashes wet?

      Tip 4. Looking for drama?

Longer extensions aren’t necessarily the solution.

Shorter lashes give a fuller and more dramatic look than longer lashes because it is a bolder look. Longer extensions have a wispier feel and will  not necessarily mean that your look  will be  more dramatic.

      Tip 5. Speak Up

All of my clients crash hard at their appointment.  My favorite sound is a snoring client!!

You are not a bug or an inconvenience if you speak up at your Lash appointment.  Your Lash Artist or Technician wants you to have the best experience possible.  If you are feeling any burning or itching during your appointment, it is so important that you let your technician know.

You should be completely comfortable during your appointment.  Anything other than comfortable is not normal.

      Tip 6. Lash Extension Maintenance

As your Lash Artist I will give you a perfect set of Eyelash Extensions.  With that said, it is your responsibility take care of them.

My clients have amazing retention, meaning their Extensions don’t just fall off.  You will enjoy  long lasting eyelash extensions if you do practice at home maintenance.

The lifespan of lash extensions depends on  cleanliness, makeup and beauty routines,  growth and shed cycles, as well as seasons.

Ultimately the retention of lash extensions depends on how much care you put into keeping them healthy and looking great.  That doesn’t mean you will be spending a ton of time maintaining them, but it does mean a quick lash bath every night.

      Tip 7. Nap time!

During a lash extension appointment, the majority of my clients do fall asleep.  I love visiting with my clients but I am working with hundreds of tiny lashes, complicated patterns and I do alot of layering to create that fluffy look you see in all of my pictures and I have discovered that I do go quite when I am creating and designing perfect lashes.

My clients all know this and they use this time to  to relax or sneak in a nap and enjoy the pampering.

Eyelash Extension Tips - Lash Naps

Tip 8. Coffee or tea before an appointment?

Your eyes can flutter all they want and I can absolutely work around it.  My clients who think their eyes are fluttering, actually aren’t.   Don’t worry about fluttery eyes, after a few minutes everything settles down once you are in the zone.

Caffeine can definitely cause your eyes to flutter, but I am more concerned that caffeine will make it difficult for you to relax and tune out the busy world.

Best adivce, avoid caffeine at least an hour before your appointment.

Eyelash Extension Tips - Coffee before Appointment

Tip 9. Longer lashes on the outer corners.

Longer lashes on the outer corners don’t work for everyone.

A cat-eye is supposed to make your eyes look larger, but that doesn’t work for everyone’s eye.  Natural lashes grow shorter on the outer corners and in most case those lashes cannot support the heavier weight of longer extension. Longer lashes on the outer corner can end up looking droopy, and it isn’t flattering look on everyone.

      Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

      Caring for your Eyelash Extensions

You’ve got brand new eyelash extensions and you will love them from day 1.  Caring for your Eyelash Extensions will help to keep your lashes looking their best.

Here are a few tips on Caring for your Eyelash Extensions.

If you are a client of mine you will have heard me say, that there are only 2 things that will make your Eyelash Extensions fall off before their time.  Those 2 things are Oil and Friction.

Wash your Eyelash Extensions Every Night

Clean lash extensions last longer.  If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.  Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely when you avoid washing them.

Understand when and how to wash your eyelash extensions:  READ MORE

      Don’t rub your eyes

This is truly  has  to be the toughest tip of  all my tips.  We don’t realize how much we rub our eyes until we are told we can’t.

Rubbing your eyes is a big no no, as it will cause them to fall prematurely. Rubbing  can break the bond between your natural lashes and your eyelash extensions.

      Don’t sleep on your Face

Sleeping on your face pushed into your pillow can cause your extensions to fall out more quickly.

Try to sleep on your back.

TIP:  Whether you sleep on your face, back or side.  Invest in a silk pillow case.  You can pick them up really cheap on Amazon.  Remember me saying an enemy was friction?

Only use makeup and  face products that are oil free

Now this is not to say that you have to give up all the products you love.  Just keep products with oil away from your lashes.

      Brush your eyelashes

For each appointment you have, you will leave with the lash brush I used on your lashes.  You can brush through your lashes whenever you like.  For sure you will want to brush them first thing when you wake up and probably before you go to bed.

Brushing your lashes, keeps them looking nice and neat.  Don’t be afraid to brush them, they aren’t going to fall off.

      Don’t use waterproof mascara

Actually you shouldn’t be using mascara at all.  But for sure no waterproof mascara or  any waterproof makeup.  I always say, if it is hard to get off, don’t se it.

Waterproof mascara is hard on both eyelash extensions and natural lashes.  The scrubbing required to remove waterproof make-up will damage your eyelash extensions and traumitize natural lashes.

Once you have your lashes done, you will find that you don’t need mascara.  Just make sure that your eyeline and eyeshadows aren’t waterproof.

      Caring for Your Eyelash Extensions

      Most important tip!

Don’t forget  to maintain your fabulous lashes, you need to get your lash extensions filled on a regular basis.

Eyelash Extension Fill – Why Do I Need One?

Eyelash Extension Fill – Why Do I Need One?

Eyelash Extension Fill – Why Do I Need One?

Eyelash Extensions are a popular way of enhancing your natural lashes.

The first thing you need to know about eyelash extensions is that they need to be maintained.  Lash Fills are recommended every 3 weeks.  If you wait longer than 3 weeks  it will take longer to fill your lashes as there will be more natural lashes and many will be outgrown.

      Growth Cycle

Your natural lashes have a natural growth cycle, just like hair. An individual Natural Lash sheds anywhere from 60-90 days and new natural lashes will grow in, to replace that shedded lash.

Each time a lash sheds, the extension falls with the natural lash it is attached to.

Regular Lash Fills will ensure that your lashes always look their best.

What is an Eyelash Extension Fill?

An Eyelash Extension fill is where I place new eyelash extensions on your new natural lashes and I remove any outgrown eyelash extensions replacing them with new eyelash extensions.

At your fill I am rebalancing the lashes, checking your lash health and making your lashes look full again or even fuller.  This is an awesome time to discuss going longer or shorter as well.

I love Fills because we can play with your look and it is a time for me to express my creativity and artistry. PLUS you get to have a lash nap!!

Lash extensions are applied to only one natural lash. The Lash Extension should never touch your skin and there should always be a safe distance between your lash extension and your eyelid.

      • You do not want a technician who places lash adhesive on your skin as this will cause irritations.
      • A Certified Lash Artist will use only a tiny amount of adhesive and you should not be able to see the adhesive.
      • For New Sets and Eyelash Extension Fills always Choose a Certified Lash Technician
You will an need Eyelash Extension Fill because your natural eyelashes continue to grow and shed.

A lot of people don’t know that even with  Eyelash Extensions your natural eyelashes continue to grow, move and shed. When your natural lash sheds the extension that I have applied to that lash will fall out with your natural lash. When you have eyelash extensions you will find a natural lash attached to the fallen or shed eyelash. That’s good! It means your eyelash extensions are staying on your natural lash until the lash sheds.

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

eyelash extension fill after week one
This image of Eyelash Extensions after 1 week will help you visualize what happens with your natural lash and your Eyelash Extension.

After 1 week, you might notice that your lashes seem to be getting longer.

Your natural lash continues to grow and the Eyelash Extension grows out with the natural lash.

We all want our Beautiful Eyelash Extensions to last as long as possible.

Factors that can influence how often you need an Eyelash Extension Fill:

After Week 2.  You probably do not need an Eyelash Extension Fill yet.

With proper at home care and proper application your natural lashes are happy and continue to grow.

After two weeks your Eyelash Extensions and natural lashes are grown out a little more than Week 1.

Eyelash Extension Fill – I had another salon / artist do my lashes.  Can you fill them?

I don’t fill other technicians work for many reasons.
      • If you are having bad retention with your current Lash Tech or Your Eyelash Extensions are Falling Out.  There is nothing I can do to fix their work.  We have to remove them and start with a new set.
      • You wanted to try Eyelash Extensions and you started with A Cheap Set of Eyelash Extensions There is no way to put this politely.  Not all lash technicians understand proper and safe application.  I specialize in Proper and Safe Application, unfortunately I cannot fill a bad set of eyelash extensions. We have to remove them and start with a new set.
eyelash extension fill after week 4

This is a good picture to understand what your extensions will start to look like after 4 weeks of growth. With that said, some clients lashes will grow faster or slower than others, it all depends on your own natural lash cycle.

An Eyelash Extension Fill is recommended at 3 weeks.

You don’t want to go so long between Eyelash Extensions Fills that your Extensions and Natural Lashes are outgrown.  If you do wait 4 weeks or more between an Eyelash Extension Fill your  lash extensions can start to bend or twist.

Outgrown Lashes can get messy and tangle up.  Outgrown lashes are not attractive and can sometimes cause damage to your natural lashes because of the pulling weight.

Eyelash extensions damaging to natural lashes?

If Eyelash Extensions are applied properly, by a Certified Lash Technician, they will not damage your natural lashes.

If Eyelash Extensions are not applied properly they quite simply, will not last and you will experience damage to your natural lash.

Please! Research your lash professional, we are not all the same!

It is extremely important that you follow the recommended at home care. Improper at home care is a big contributor to natural lash damage.

Proper At Home Care is easy

      Examples of Improper Home Aftercare:

      • Not washing your eyelash extensions properly and everyday, can causing a build-up of products and dirt, blocking hair follicles as well as other lash problems. If you do not wash your lashes daily they will shed prematurely and your natural lashes will not be as healthy as they could be.
      • Playing, petting or picking eyelash extensions.
      • Sleeping on your Eyelash Extensions.
      • Wearing waterproof  products including:  glittery eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner can all contribute lash damage.
        • All of these products are hard to remove from the extension base.
        • Mascara and eyeliners can stick on to your natural lashes and eyelash extensions and are extremely hard to remove.
        • Most clients who use these products have to aggressively try to clean their lashes which absolutely causes damage.

      Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

      Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

What does it mean if your eyelash extensions are falling out?

My clients do not experience bad retention or their eyelash extensions don’t just fall off.

The majority of my clients can’t even believe it is time for a fill when they come in.

With proper safe application and at home maintenance, the picture below is what my clients lashes look like before their 3 week fill.

I decided wanted to write this post, because I have alot of gals calling who have had their lashes done by another technician and they are having eyelashes fall out within days.  This is NOT NORMAL!

It would be so upsetting to have your lashes done and they don’t last.

Seeing your extensions on your pillow or in the sink can definitely upset most clients.

Let’s take a look at some common causes for bad retention or why eyelash extensions would be falling out to quickly.

HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Eyelash extensions can last as long as the growth cycle of the natural lash. Extensions are attached to a natural lash and when the natural lash sheds the extension will go with that lash.

It is very important that you understand lash extensions are not permanent.  We can’t defy nature.

If you are finding that your retention or your eyelash extensions are falling with no natural lash attached, the following information will be helpful.

Good Post to read:  How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

      Natural Shedding

Alot of people don’t realize that we actually shed our natural lashes.  Shedding occurs when the natural lash has completed its life cycle. Several natural lashes will reach the final stage at the same time and they will all shed as a group.

When you shed a Lash Extension and there is a Natural Lash attached, this is normal.

      EYELASH SHEDDING

Each eye naturally can shed between 2 – 3 lashes per day.  That’s why I recommend lash fills every 3 weeks to keep your lashes looking their best and fullest.

TRIVIA:  your eyes do not shed the same.  One eye can shed more than the other and that is normal.

      THE SEASON

You will hear Lash Technicians talk about “the” fall shed, “the” spring shed.  I never believed in this theory when I first started, but as an experienced Lash Artist, I can tell you, this is a thing.

There are different seasons where we shed more than normal.

      Read about  Seasonal Shed.

The good thing, it doesn’t last long.

      EXAMINE YOUR LASHES

We know that natural lashes naturally shed every day.  Before eyelash extensions, we don’t usually notice when a natural lash falls.  We do notice when a lash extension is attached to a natural lash because it is more obvious.    So get up close and personal with that lash on your pillow or in your sink.

If you can see the 1 single natural lash attached to an extension, it is a natural part of the cycle.

If a few extensions fall without a natural lash attached, one of the areas below could be the reason.

      Proper and Safe Application

Not all Lash Professionals are the same.  Before you select your Lash Artist or Technician be sure to do your research.

Eyelash extensions that are not properly and safely applied will not last.

The Lash Room enviornment is so important.  You can have the most talented Lash Artist in the world and if her temperature and humidity in her room is not what it should be, she will have a problem applying the extensions and retention will also be a problem.

It is so important, if I can’t get the environment where it should be, I will cancel a full day of clients.  It doesn’t happen often that I have to cancel appointments but temperature and humidity is key to proper application and safe application and why my eyelash extensions last as long as they do!

      Adhesive

When I began my career I made a promise that I would only use the highest quality products available to me and eyelash adhesive is the #1 most important product other than the lashes of course.

There are a ton of eyelash extension adhesives on the market.   The bonding life of adhesives range can from 1 week to 8 weeks.

My adhesive has the  longest bonding life that I can find.  If your technician choses to use an adhesive with a shorter life span, or a cheap adhesive, your lash set will be short lived as well.

      My Adhesive

      Medical Conditions

These are a few medical conditions that can have a negative effect on the growth, shedding and overall health of your eyelashes.  I am not a medical professional and cannot diagnose any medical condition.  If you are concerned that you may be experiencing a medical condition, you should always consult your doctor.

      • Trichotillomania Tangle.  Also called hair-pulling disorder.
      • Thyroid Condition. Eyelash loss can occur with both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
      • Alopecia Areata – An autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss.
      • Blepharitis and Chemotherapy can also have a negative effect the growth, shedding and overall health of your lashes.

      Diet

When you have a healthy balanced diet you will also have healthy lashes.

      Contact with Oils

Any kind of oil is the one ingredient that is the #1 enemy to eyelash extensions.

This includes natural oils produced by the body and ingredients in products used on your face.

Oils will reduce retention of the eyelash extensions to the natural lash and cause your extensions to fall prematurely.

Hands Off!  Avoid Petting or Touching

Try not touch your lashes. Lahses are not “this” delicate but some clients develop a habit of constantly touching their lashes throughout the day.  Any oils on your fingers will transfer to your lashes.

      Lash Growth Serums

I am a fan of Lash Serums because they condition your natural lashes and help your natural lashes to grow longer, stronger and thicker. Most Lash Serums are eyelash extension safe but always check with your professional before you add one to your beauty routine.

You only want to use the serum once a day because you will experience more shedding if your lash cycle is quickened. I will always tell you if I want you to decrease to every 2nd day at your fill.

      Mascara

The #1 beauty product that I always recommend you avoid whether you have natural lashes or eyelash extensions is waterproof mascara.  Waterproof mascara can damage your natural lashes.

Many mascaras contain ingredients that cause buildup on your lash and lash line.

When mascara is applied to eyelash extensions, the ingredients will break down the adhesive and weaken the bond.  If you use mascara with eyelash extensions you will experience premature shedding, period.

Premature Shedding:  Eyelash Extensions lift from the natural lash and fall off

      Not Washing Your Lashes

It is essential to keep your lashes clean and wash them every day!

When lashes are not clean, the lash hair follicle can get clogged with dirt and debris. Clogged follicles cause lashes to shed and if left untreated can lead to stunting new lash growth.

      How to Wash Your Lashes.

It’s not necessary to purchase expensive Lash Shampoos or cleansers.  You can make your own Lash Shampoo, for pennies.

      Sleeping and Rubbing your Eyes

If  sleep with your face down in the pillow, expect some of your lashes to fall. Sleeping on your back is ideal.

Rubbing your eyes is a big no no.  If you rub your eyes expect some of your lashes to fall.

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

      Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

When should you wash your lash extensions?

I can’t stress how important it is to Wash Your Lash Extensions EVERY NIGHT.

Your days are busy and during the day your lashes have accumulated facial oil, dust, dirt and makeup.

Improper washing or avoiding washing all together will cause problems resulting in your lashes not lasting as long as they should.

Not washing daily can also lead to poor lash health.

In today’s post I will be talking about why clean lash extensions last longer.

      • If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.
        • Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely if you don’t bath them every night.
      • You should wash your lash extensions after activities such as swimming, working out and wearing sunscreen.
          • Chlorine, salt, perspiration and oils should be removed immediately from lash extensions to maintain the integrity of the lash adhesive.

        Unwashed Lashes

When you look in the mirror, unwashed lashes don’t look bad.  When I look at unwashed lashes under my lamp and with  magnifying glasses on, the build up of oil, dirt and makeup is obvious.

When you don’t wash your lashes daily, dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and oil build up on your lash line quickly.  This build up will  break down the adhesive over time. When the lash adhesive starts to break down you are going to have your extensions fall off prematurely instead of lasting the entire life of the natural lash cycle and falling out when the natural lash is shed.

Benefits of washing your lashes daily.

When you wash your lashes correctly between appointments, you are going to  return with more lashes left compared to clients who don’t wash daily. Most clients  that look after their lashes are able to go 3 weeks between fills and come in with 50%  – 75% lashes left.

        Lash Washing – DO

        • Wash your lash extensions every night.  Including the night of your appointment.
        • Avoid all products that contain oil,  around or on your eye area. This includes:
          • Facial Cleansers, moisturisers, cleansing oils, aromatherapy oils, spray toners, coconut/rosehip oils, eye creams.
          • Shampoo and conditioner.
        • Lash Shampoo Recipe

        Lash Washing –  DON’TS:

        • Do NOT use makeup remover wipes around your lash extensions. Makeup remover wipes are full of oils, glycols and emolients and they will cause your lash extensions to fall off prematurely.
        • Do NOT use cleansing waters like micellar. Only use products that are safe for lash extensions.
        • Do NOT use face cloths, sponges, makeup pads, cotton buds or other items on  your lash extensions. You don’t want anything tuggig at your lash extensions that could cause damage or premature lash loss.
        • Do NOT rub your eyes aggresively while washing. I recommend using a soft blush brush.  Dip the brush into your cleanser and brush across lash line and down lashes.  Be sure to rinse.
          • BE GENTLE.  Rigorous rubbing will cause premature lash loss and you can damage your lash extensions and natural lashes.

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

When can I get my Lashes Wet?  Is one of the most asked questions.

Many technicians instruct their clients not to get their Lash Extensions wet for 24-48 hours.  There is no way I could go 24-48 hours without getting my lashes wet.

So I am here to tell you…..

        YES!!!

Of course you can get your eyelash extensions wet the same day you have them done.

Well… if they are done by me you can.

If you’re still waiting 24-48 hours to get your lash extensions wet after your appointment, then I have to  tell you – you’re living in the past my darling!

I control the bond and cure of your lash adhesive, a technique I was trained on years ago.   I am 4x Certified so I have lots of tricks up my sleeve..lol

It’s fine to do Yoga, work out, shower, or bath the same day you have them done.

        Salt Water – Tip

        Yes go ahead and swim.

When you are in salt water, remember that you will have the urge to rub your lashes – salt water can sting.  Try not to rub your eyes.

After your day in the sun….. simply rinse your lashes with cool water to remove any residue from the salt water.

Can I bath them the same day I have them done?

Yes!  I recommend you give your lashes a bath the same night you have them done.

        Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions

        Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions

There is a secret to having long lasting eyelash extensions.

You’ve probably heard the term “permanent eyelash extensions”. That’s misleading because lash extensions are really “semi-permanent”.

Lash Extensions won’t stay on forever, because your natural lashes grow and shed. There are however ways to ensure that your extensions are Long Lasting.

Client Care for Long Lasting Eyelash Extensions

To make your lashes last longer also depends on how you treat your extensions and how you care for them at home.

Here are some hints and tips for you to follow:

        Eyelash Extensions Care 101

Client Photos – Before Lash Fill

I was going through pictures of my clients today and wanted to share what my clients eyelashes look like before their fill.

Are there any Eyelash Enhancements that last forever?

Wouldn’t Life be easier if there were permanent lashes? Unfortunately there are no sythetic lashes that will last forever.

        Permanent Eyelash Surgery

I haven’t done any research on this, but there is something called Lash Implantation. This is a surgical procedure that transfers individual hairs from another part of your body and implants them into the eyelid.

This is a treatment that would be done by a doctor.  That gives me the heebie jeebies. LOL

If it is something that you find interesting, you should talk with a medical professional.  If you have had this done, I would love to know how you are enjoying your lashes.
