Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

Eyelash Extensions Are Falling Out

What does it mean if your eyelash extensions are falling out?

My clients do not experience bad retention or their eyelash extensions don’t just fall off.

The majority of my clients can’t even believe it is time for a fill when they come in.

With proper safe application and at home maintenance, the picture below is what my clients lashes look like before their 3 week fill.

I decided wanted to write this post, because I have alot of gals calling who have had their lashes done by another technician and they are having eyelashes fall out within days.  This is NOT NORMAL!

It would be so upsetting to have your lashes done and they don’t last.

Seeing your extensions on your pillow or in the sink can definitely upset most clients.

Let’s take a look at some common causes for bad retention or why eyelash extensions would be falling out to quickly.

HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Eyelash extensions can last as long as the growth cycle of the natural lash. Extensions are attached to a natural lash and when the natural lash sheds the extension will go with that lash.

It is very important that you understand lash extensions are not permanent.  We can’t defy nature.

If you are finding that your retention or your eyelash extensions are falling with no natural lash attached, the following information will be helpful.

Good Post to read:  How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

Natural Shedding

Alot of people don’t realize that we actually shed our natural lashes.  Shedding occurs when the natural lash has completed its life cycle. Several natural lashes will reach the final stage at the same time and they will all shed as a group.

When you shed a Lash Extension and there is a Natural Lash attached, this is normal.

EYELASH SHEDDING

Each eye naturally can shed between 2 – 3 lashes per day.  That’s why I recommend lash fills every 3 weeks to keep your lashes looking their best and fullest.

TRIVIA:  your eyes do not shed the same.  One eye can shed more than the other and that is normal.

THE SEASON

You will hear Lash Technicians talk about “the” fall shed, “the” spring shed.  I never believed in this theory when I first started, but as an experienced Lash Artist, I can tell you, this is a thing.

There are different seasons where we shed more than normal.

Read about  Seasonal Shed.

The good thing, it doesn’t last long.

EXAMINE YOUR LASHES

We know that natural lashes naturally shed every day.  Before eyelash extensions, we don’t usually notice when a natural lash falls.  We do notice when a lash extension is attached to a natural lash because it is more obvious.    So get up close and personal with that lash on your pillow or in your sink.

If you can see the 1 single natural lash attached to an extension, it is a natural part of the cycle.

If a few extensions fall without a natural lash attached, one of the areas below could be the reason.

Proper and Safe Application

Not all Lash Professionals are the same.  Before you select your Lash Artist or Technician be sure to do your research.

Eyelash extensions that are not properly and safely applied will not last.

This post will interest you:  CHEAP EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Lash Room Environment

When you come to see me you will see humidifiers, de-humidifiers etc.

The Lash Room enviornment is so important.  You can have the most talented Lash Artist in the world and if her temperature and humidity in her room is not what it should be, she will have a problem applying the extensions and retention will also be a problem.

It is so important, if I can’t get the environment where it should be, I will cancel a full day of clients.  It doesn’t happen often that I have to cancel appointments but temperature and humidity is key to proper application and safe application and why my eyelash extensions last as long as they do!

Adhesive

When I began my career I made a promise that I would only use the highest quality products available to me and eyelash adhesive is the #1 most important product other than the lashes of course.

There are a ton of eyelash extension adhesives on the market.   The bonding life of adhesives range can from 1 week to 8 weeks.

My adhesive has the  longest bonding life that I can find.  If your technician choses to use an adhesive with a shorter life span, or a cheap adhesive, your lash set will be short lived as well.

My Adhesive

Medical Conditions

These are a few medical conditions that can have a negative effect on the growth, shedding and overall health of your eyelashes.  I am not a medical professional and cannot diagnose any medical condition.  If you are concerned that you may be experiencing a medical condition, you should always consult your doctor.

  • Trichotillomania Tangle.  Also called hair-pulling disorder.
  • Thyroid Condition. Eyelash loss can occur with both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).
  • Alopecia Areata – An autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss.
  • Blepharitis and Chemotherapy can also have a negative effect the growth, shedding and overall health of your lashes.

Diet

When you have a healthy balanced diet you will also have healthy lashes.

Contact with Oils

Any kind of oil is the one ingredient that is the #1 enemy to eyelash extensions.

This includes natural oils produced by the body and ingredients in products used on your face.

Oils will reduce retention of the eyelash extensions to the natural lash and cause your extensions to fall prematurely.

Hands Off!  Avoid Petting or Touching

Try not touch your lashes. Lahses are not “this” delicate but some clients develop a habit of constantly touching their lashes throughout the day.  Any oils on your fingers will transfer to your lashes.

Lash Growth Serums

I am a fan of Lash Serums because they condition your natural lashes and help your natural lashes to grow longer, stronger and thicker. Most Lash Serums are eyelash extension safe but always check with your professional before you add one to your beauty routine.

You only want to use the serum once a day because you will experience more shedding if your lash cycle is quickened. I will always tell you if I want you to decrease to every 2nd day at your fill.

Mascara

The #1 beauty product that I always recommend you avoid whether you have natural lashes or eyelash extensions is waterproof mascara.  Waterproof mascara can damage your natural lashes.

Many mascaras contain ingredients that cause buildup on your lash and lash line.

When mascara is applied to eyelash extensions, the ingredients will break down the adhesive and weaken the bond.  If you use mascara with eyelash extensions you will experience premature shedding, period.

Premature Shedding:  Eyelash Extensions lift from the natural lash and fall off

Not Washing Your Lashes

It is essential to keep your lashes clean and wash them every day!

When lashes are not clean, the lash hair follicle can get clogged with dirt and debris. Clogged follicles cause lashes to shed and if left untreated can lead to stunting new lash growth.

How to Wash Your Lashes.

It’s not necessary to purchase expensive Lash Shampoos or cleansers.  You can make your own Lash Shampoo, for pennies.

Sleeping and Rubbing your Eyes

If  sleep with your face down in the pillow, expect some of your lashes to fall. Sleeping on your back is ideal.

Rubbing your eyes is a big no no.  If you rub your eyes expect some of your lashes to fall.

Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

When should you wash your lash extensions?

I can’t stress how important it is to Wash Your Lash Extensions EVERY NIGHT.

Your days are busy and during the day your lashes have accumulated facial oil, dust, dirt and makeup.

Improper washing or avoiding washing all together will cause problems resulting in your lashes not lasting as long as they should.

Not washing daily can also lead to poor lash health.

In today’s post I will be talking about why clean lash extensions last longer.

  • If you have been told in the past to avoid water, by another technician, this is bad advice.
    • Your lash extensions will fall off prematurely if you don’t bath them every night.
  • You should wash your lash extensions after activities such as swimming, working out and wearing sunscreen.
      • Chlorine, salt, perspiration and oils should be removed immediately from lash extensions to maintain the integrity of the lash adhesive.

    Unwashed Lashes

When you look in the mirror, unwashed lashes don’t look bad.  When I look at unwashed lashes under my lamp and with  magnifying glasses on, the build up of oil, dirt and makeup is obvious.

Dirty Lashes | Photo Credit: Carmen Palmiste

When you don’t wash your lashes daily, dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and oil build up on your lash line quickly.  This build up will  break down the adhesive over time. When the lash adhesive starts to break down you are going to have your extensions fall off prematurely instead of lasting the entire life of the natural lash cycle and falling out when the natural lash is shed.

Benefits of washing your lashes daily.

When you wash your lashes correctly between appointments, you are going to  return with more lashes left compared to clients who don’t wash daily. Most clients  that look after their lashes are able to go 3 weeks between fills and come in with 50%  – 75% lashes left.

    Lash Washing – DO

    • Wash your lash extensions every night.  Including the night of your appointment.
    • Avoid all products that contain oil,  around or on your eye area. This includes:
      • Facial Cleansers, moisturisers, cleansing oils, aromatherapy oils, spray toners, coconut/rosehip oils, eye creams.
      • Shampoo and conditioner.
    • Lash Shampoo Recipe

    Lash Washing –  DON’TS:

    • Do NOT use makeup remover wipes around your lash extensions. Makeup remover wipes are full of oils, glycols and emolients and they will cause your lash extensions to fall off prematurely.
    • Do NOT use cleansing waters like micellar. Only use products that are safe for lash extensions.
    • Do NOT use face cloths, sponges, makeup pads, cotton buds or other items on  your lash extensions. You don’t want anything tuggig at your lash extensions that could cause damage or premature lash loss.
    • Do NOT rub your eyes aggresively while washing. I recommend using a soft blush brush.  Dip the brush into your cleanser and brush across lash line and down lashes.  Be sure to rinse.
      • BE GENTLE.  Rigorous rubbing will cause premature lash loss and you can damage your lash extensions and natural lashes.

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

Can I get Eyelash Extensions Wet?

When can I get my Lashes Wet?  Is one of the most asked questions.

Many technicians instruct their clients not to get their Lash Extensions wet for 24-48 hours.  There is no way I could go 24-48 hours without getting my lashes wet.

So I am here to tell you…..

    YES!!!

Of course you can get your eyelash extensions wet the same day you have them done.

Well… if they are done by me you can.

If you’re still waiting 24-48 hours to get your lash extensions wet after your appointment, then I have to  tell you – you’re living in the past my darling!

I control the bond and cure of your lash adhesive, a technique I was trained on years ago.   I am 4x Certified so I have lots of tricks up my sleeve..lol

    Have Fun with Lash Extensions

After an appointment with me you can get your  lash extensions wet right away!

It’s fine to do Yoga, work out, shower, or bath the same day you have them done.

Do it!!  Do the things you love!  Take that shower, go swimming and play in the rain….. have fun!

    Salt Water – Tip

    Yes go ahead and swim.

When you are in salt water, remember that you will have the urge to rub your lashes – salt water can sting.  Try not to rub your eyes.

After your day in the sun….. simply rinse your lashes with cool water to remove any residue from the salt water.

Can I bath them the same day I have them done?

Yes!  I recommend you give your lashes a bath the same night you have them done.

Today I present the most recent 50 pictures of Eyelash Extensions, before and after.

My life revolves around lashes It’s not just my business it’s my passion.

I literally examine your face shape, eye shape/size/distance between, lid space, brow shape, and natural lash line to determine the best custom design for YOU.

After 2-3 hours of not moving a muscle just my hands, you would think that my hands would cramp.  Crazy but they don’t.  However, when I do try to stand up at the end of a session I do walk a little bit lopsided because my muscles are screaming.   A bit to re-focus my eyes because I have been concentrating with magnifying glasses for the entire time.

    Lash Retention

Amazing retention.  Even after 3 weeks, my clients extensions still look beautiful. That doesn’t happen by accident. I only use the highest quality products on my clients.

Designing Eyelash Extensions is such a delicate art.  Each natural lash is singled out and then the extensions are placed on your natural lash without touching the skin, this is done hundreds of times per eye.

    Lash Nap

Snoring is one of my favourite sounds. That means you are completely relaxed and trusts me.

You are on my mind, long after you leave.  Your pictures are analyzed after you leave, so I can do better the next time I see you.

Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to be your lash artist… XOXO

    Myths About Eyelash Extensions

    Myths About Eyelash Extensions

    Myths About Eyelash Extensions

Myths About Eyelash Extensions or things you have heard that concern you.

In today’s post, let’s discuss and debunk some common myths about eyelash extensions.

Myth #1: All Lash Techs are the same

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - all lash techs are the same

FALSE:  Not all Lash Professionals are the same.  Be sure to do your research.

    • Ask questions — after all, we are working near your eyes. Be sure that whoever you choose is certified to apply lashes.
    • Ask to see pictures of their work. Eyelash extensions applied by a Certified Technician will always look defined, straight, and natural (even with lots of volume). You should have good retention and no lashes should “flip” around and your eyes or lashes should NEVER be uncomfortable!!
    • Compare prices.  For the most part, the adage “you get what you pay for” is true. Some lash artists overcharge and some undercharge, Certification and Experience play a huge part in pricing. Also why it is so important to look at pictures and customer testimonials.
    • DO NOT go to a lash tech that hasn’t taken courses from a reputable company.
She Just Does Lashes - Cindy Grainger, 4x certified lash artist located in Regina Sk

Myth 2: Don’t Get Them Wet for 24-48 hours

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - don't get them wet

This one makes me beyond crazy!!!

False: I totally cringe, whenever I hear that a client has been told not to get their extensions wet for 24-48 hours!!

In my opinion, this is the biggest mistake a client can make with new lashes.

Eyelash extensions NEED to be  washed, every night.  This should be done with a Lash Shampoo that you can make at home.

How long your lash extensions last, is totally related to how well you maintain them.

Extensions will not fall out if you get them wet!!

When you wash them every night, they last longer. If you do not wash them, you risk the extensions falling out prematurely. Unwashed lashes harbor oil, dirt and makeup which breaks down the adhesive.

Myth 3: Eyelash Extensions Are Uncomfortable

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - uncomfortable

    The Appointment

Whether it be a Full Set or Lash Fill, the process does not hurt and should never be uncomfortable.

Always research your Lash Professional and pay attention to who you are going to entrust your eyes to!

    After Appointment

Your lashes should feel comfortable and weightless.  So light, you will forget you even have Lash Extensions.

NOTE:  If you ever experience Redness, Itching or Swelling you should always let your Professional know immediately.  Allergic to Eyelash Adhesive

Myth 4: Eyelash Extensions Can Destroy Your Natural Eyelashes

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - destroy natural lashes

False:  If your Lash Professional is certified and is using high quality lashes and adhesives, there will be no damage to your natural lashes.

Evaluating your Natural Lashes and applying a sythetic lash that is the proper weight and length is important to ensure you have a safe set of lash extensions.  Improper length or weight  can cause damage to the natural eyelashes.

NEVER try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself.  You can damage your Natural Lashes by pulling the extensions off of your lashes.

This is why I love my job….❤️❤️❤️ “I am one of the happy, satisfied customers of Cindy..she did exactly what I requested..full set of natural-looking lashes! They have added definition and volume without looking or feeling fake and blended seamlessly for a full but natural look. If this is your first time to try this, Cindy will take care of you..she will walk you through the process so you will not feel uncomfortable or nervous.. thanks again Cindy!”
Love…love notes!! I have just finished my first appointment with Cindy, amazing, relaxing & professional. This is the first lash technician that has not finished my lashes and where my lids are stuck a little bit together. I can’t even feel that l have beautiful long lashes. Like I said, amazing and 5 Star treatment.

Myth 5:  Your Natural Lashes will fall out

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - your eyelashes will fall out

First things first, your natural eyelashes naturally fall out (or shed) everyday.

You just don’t realize it because your natural lashes are small and fine…..but our natural lashes fall out (or shed) every four to six weeks just like the hairs on our head.

Eyelash extensions only get a bad rap because it’s more noticeable to spot a natural eyelash that has shed when there is an extension on the natural lash.

Shedding is a process that is completely normal, natural and healthy.

With all that said… when you are looking for your lash artist: Not all lash technicians understand proper and safe application. Do your research. Pick a trained, certified an experienced lash techician and you will enjoy beautiful, full, safe and long lasting eyelash extensions…xxoo Cindy Grainger | 4x certified lash artist | Regina, Saskatchewan | 306.535.7787
Love Note from Phoenix Cindy Grainger is so incredibly talented, I could never think of going to anyone else for Eyelash Extensions!  She takes the time to explain to you what she’s doing so you understand the process, and feel 100% comfortable. Highly recommend Cindy to anyone who’s thinking of lash extensions.

Myth 6:  Lash Extensions look fake

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - look fake

This is the number 1 concern, I hear from new clients.

Your eyes are as unique as you are.  My role as your lash artist is to create a perfect look, for you.  When done properly  lash extensions can actually reshape your eyes and really make them pop!

I don’t do just one design…Lash Extensions are “customized” to each client.  I design a look for you by adding different lengths, volume, and curls. Your  eyelash extensions are custom designed to match your own natural eyelash, compliment your eyes and face.

Your appointment will start with you and I deciding how long, thick and full you want your lashes to be.

When applied properly, lash extensions will make an huge difference. You will look and feel pretty.  Even when you hop out of bed.. you look put together.

Myth 7: Mascara Can Be Used On Eyelash Extensions

Myths About Eyelashes Extensions - mascara

False:  Mascara and eyelash extensions do not play well together.  Please do not use mascara.

Mascara will stick the extensions together and is impossible to get off.

Mascara will also break down the adhesive which will influence your retention, meaning you will have extensions fall off before the natural lash has shed.

    Cheap Eyelash Extensions Regina

I have really been struggling as to whether or not to post this.  If you are a client who is looking for a cheap eyelash extensions…This post is for you.

When you were looking for a lash artist… Please please please realize that there is a difference in quality… Not all lash technicians understand proper and safe application.

My heart has been absolutely broken these last few weeks. I have clients coming from other salons or technicians and I absolutely cannot fill their work.

Both of the pictures are volume sets at 3 weeks. The one on the LEFT is not my work and the one on the right is my work.

The set on the left which is not my work, is not a safe set of extensions.

Your eyes are important to you and extremely important to me.

Shop around for your lash tech, ask to see their certification certificates and be sure to check out their before and after pictures and ask for customer testimonials.

You definitely want a Certified Lash Artist.  I am 4x Certfied.

Your extensions should feel light, fluffy and you should be able to brush through them easily.

    • If your eyes are burning during your appointment… Then they are not being done properly.
    • If your eyelash extensions are uncomfortable… Then they have not been done properly.
    • If your eyelash extensions feel heavy… They’ve not been done properly.
    • If your eyelash extensions twist and poke you in the eye… Then they have not been done properly.

There is so much amazing talent in our city… But please do your research before you book an appointment.
