Eyelash Extension Care 101

Eyelash Extension Care 101

To ensure that your natural lashes remain healthy and to extend the life of your lash extensions, proper eyelash extension care is crucial. Whether you are new to eyelash extensions or considering getting them, it’s important to understand the necessary upkeep they require.

However, if you have habits such as rubbing your eyes, pulling on your lashes, or being a face sleeper, you may want to explore alternative options.

Eyelash Extension Care Tips:

Eyelash Extension Care – Top Tip #1

Clean your Eyelash Extensions. Taking care of your precious eyelash extensions is an absolute must! Remember to wash them every single night.

It’s completely normal to adore your new lashes so much that you’re worried they might come off if they get wet. But fear not! Once you have them, they become a part of your world, making your daily routine a breeze.

You can shower, swim, sweat, and yes, even shed a few tears… they’re not going anywhere!

However, the biggest mistake you can make is neglecting to clean your lashes. Daily cleaning is super important because it helps remove any bacteria, makeup residue, and excess oils that may accumulate at the base of your eyelids. This applies whether you have enhancements or not.

Clients who diligently cleanse their lashes every day do not have a buildup of makeup, oils, bacteria or premature shedding. So remember, keep those lashes squeaky clean.

Care Tip #2 – Oil

Taking good care of your lashes is essential to maintain their health and beauty. If you’re looking for some tips, here’s one that you should keep in mind: Oil is your enemy.

Oil will break down the adhesive, causing your lashes to fall out prematurely. So, it’s important to steer clear of products that contain oil, such as cleansing oils and eye makeup removers with oil.

You might think if you are avoiding products with oil you don’t need to clean your lashes.  Well, it turns out that our lashes, just like our hair, produce natural oils called sebum.  If left unchecked, excess sebum can accumulate on your lashes, that’s why it’s important to clean your lashes every day. By doing so, you can remove any excess oil and keep your lashes looking their best.

So, there you have it – a simple yet effective tip for maintaining your lashes. With a little bit of care and attention, you can keep your lashes healthy and beautiful.

Care Tip #3 – Don’t Touch

Avoid touching your lashes. Although it may be tempting to pet your lashes, it’s important to resist the urge. When you touch your lashes often, you unknowingly transfer oil from your skin to your lashes. This oil can weaken the bond and cause the extensions to detach from your natural lashes, resulting in premature shedding. Instead of touching them, gently brush your lashes to keep them looking their best.

Care Tip #4

When it comes to mascaras and eyeliners, it’s best to follow a simple rule – if the product is difficult to remove at the end of the day, don’t use it.

Better yet, choose only oil-free formulas for eyeliners as they are placed right at the lash line.

Additionally, it’s better to avoid using water-proof, water-resistant, color-stay or gel eyeliners since they tend to be harder to remove.

It’s not recommended to wear mascara as it can damage your lashes.

Care Tip #5 – Sleep

Sleeping face down on your pillow.   I sleep on my side but I have had a few clients who sleep with their faces mushed right into the pillow.  I always hate having to tell these clients that sleeping face down will decrease the lifespan of their eyelash extensions.  Sleeping on your back is the best.

Care Tip #6 –Maintenance.

The average client will want her eyelash extensions filled around the 3 week mark.  This will maintain full, lush eyelash extensions.  There are many variables that can influence how fast your natural lashes shed.  Lash shed cycles can be affected by stress, hormones, diet, and medication ….to mention just a few.    If there is a change in your shed pattern, don’t hesitate to discuss it with me.

Eyelash Extensions vs False Eyelashes

Eyelash Extensions vs False Eyelashes

I had a fan post on my facebook page that she uses false eyelashes.  The fan posted that she didn’t understand why anyone would get eyelash extensions because she could do her own at home.  So, let’s talk about Eyelash Extensions vs False Eyelashes.

Eyelash Extensions vs False Eyelashes

eyelash extensions vs false eyelashes

Once you have had semi permanent eyelash extensions you realize that there is no comparison between strip lashes and eyelash extensions.   Eyelash extensions LOOK and FEEL like your own lashes and can last for up to 2 months.  With regular fills you can have  Eyelash Extensions every day for as long as you like.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

How long do eyelash extensions last?

When it comes to investing in Eyelash Extensions, it’s natural to have some questions before booking an appointment. One of the most common concerns that my new clients in Regina express is about the longevity of Eyelash Extensions. To address this, I’m here to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision. So, let’s dive in and explore how long Eyelash Extensions typically last.

Introducing Lash Extensions

Lash extensions are a great way to enhance the beauty of your natural lashes. To achieve this, synthetic lashes are meticulously applied and bonded to each individual natural lash with a medical-grade adhesive.

My extensions come in a range of sizes, from a subtle 6mm to a glamorous 18mm, with various curls and weights.

I design or customize your Lash Extensions to suit your unique style.  Lash extensions have the transformative power to create a wider and more lifted appearance, leaving you with captivating and confident eyes.

With consistent at-home care and regular lash fills, you can enjoy eyelash extensions indefinitely.

Natural eyelashes grow and shed.

Did you know that natural eyelashes grow and shed? In fact, before getting eyelash extensions, you probably shed 1 to 5 natural lashes per day. Even with Eyelash Extensions, your natural lashes will continue to grow, move, and shed just like they should.

Seeing a fallen eyelash can be a bit unsettling. However, it’s important to remember that this is a completely normal process. Extensions should fall off with the natural lash they are attached to, assuring you that your extensions are applied properly.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

So, how long do eyelash extensions last? Well, typically they last up to about 6 to 8 weeks.

In a perfect world, our natural lashes would never shed and they would remain intact forever. Unfortunately, lash shedding is a natural process, so your extensions will fall out gradually as your natural lashes shed.  This timeframe is dependent on your natural lash cycle.

Since each natural lash is at a different stage in its growth cycle, your extensions won’t all fall out at once. Regular fills will help you maintain your look.

In the picture above you can see that each individual eyelash extension is attached to a natural eyelash.  The extension stays attached to your natural eyelash until it sheds.

Premature Shedding

This is something we do not want to see,  Premature Shedding is when a Lash Extension falls with no natural lash attached.

How can I maintain the beauty of my eyelash extensions?

For long-lasting eyelashes, I recommend getting your lashes refreshed, touched up, or filled every 2-3 weeks.

During each fill, I will add new extensions, ensuring your lashes always look flawless. By staying consistent with these regular touch-ups, you can say goodbye to the need to invest in a full set of eyelashes again.

Why you need Eyelash Extension Fills

Eyelash Extension Fill – Should You Opt for a 2 or 3 Week Fill?

Are you unsure if you should have your eyelash extensions filled at 2 or 3 weeks? This is a common question among my clients, and the answer depends on a few factors.

Firstly, consider the speed at which your natural eyelashes grow and shed. This plays a significant role in determining the ideal fill timeframe for you.

Secondly, take into account how well you care for your eyelash extensions at home. Proper maintenance and gentle handling can extend the duration between fills.

From my experience, the majority of my clients find that a 3-week fill works well. This is especially true for those with average lash growth and minimal eye makeup usage.

However, if your lashes tend to grow and shed quickly or if you regularly wear heavy eye makeup, you may want to consider coming in for a fill every 2 weeks.

Remember, the choice ultimately depends on your personal preferences and unique eyelash characteristics.
